an 8th Grader in Mr. Allison's New Journalism class at East Bronx Academy for the Future

My name is Rebecca. I am smart and very sensitive. I write about things that inspire me and things I love!I love school and have good grades. I also love animals and I love to draw them too. I have many pets and want to be a vet when I grow up. Those are some things about me.
School is fun to me. I love math and science the most. I have to love it because I want to be a vet. I have fun with my friends. After school I work in the library. I get to work with my best friend in the library. It's fun and sometimes we get to hang out in there because we finished all our work. That's why I love school. For me, it is fun to see the look o my parents face when they see my grades.
When I'm not in school I mostly stay home. Sometimes me and my mom would go out shopping, to eat something, or to just hang out. Twice a month we would go out and hang out with my aunts, uncles, and cousins. We would have so much fun and we would play around. At home I would play video games or make blankets. I would also paint or draw animals. That's what I do when I'm not in school.

Why do some pet owners abuse their pets?

When you think of people getting a pet, you think that they love animals. But the sad truth is that some people would abuse of even kill their pets. But why do they do that. That’s what I always wonder about. If some people abuse there pets, why did they get the animal any way. Animals are living and breathing organisms. They are just like humans! They have feelings and beliefs. Some people think that they are stupid animals that don’t feel any pain. I remember a guy that didn’t want his dog any more. So he put the dog in his car and lift it there with no food or water. The dog died a horrible death, that could have been prevented. I think that if a person does not want or could not take care of their pet, they should a least find a good home for their pet. Animals diserve more then what they are getting now. Thousands of animals die each year. We need to try and help them and we could save a lot of them.
